Indian Wells 2012 Men's Singles Draw ⇢

The BNP Paribas Open main singles draw was released earlier today and for the second time in 2012 Roger Federer is on the half of the draw as Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic have been placed on the same side.

After receiving a bye in the 1st round Roger Federer is set to meet the winner of Dmitry Tursunov vs Denis Kudla in the 2nd Round of Masters 1000 event. In the 3rd round Federer could potentially face Milos Raonic or Carlos Berlocq. In the Round of 16 Roger Federer’s possible opponents are Gael Monfils and Juergen Melzer. In the Quarterfinals Roger Federer could play David Ferrer or Juan Martin Del Potro. Possible semi-final opponents for Roger are Rafael Nadal and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, which could potentially lead to a final against Novak Djokovic or Andy Murray.

Roger has arguably hardest quarter in this tournament, but knowing Roger he will pull through! The first round of the main draw of Indian Wells, which is considered the biggest ATP tournament which is not a grand slam, begins on Thursday the 8th of March in California! Best of luck Roger, keep your great run going!

Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2012 Men's Singles Draw ⇢

Hello! The Dubai 2012 draw has just been released, and for the ATP 500 tournament this year, we see Andy Murray being placed on the same half of the draw as defending champion Novak Djokovic, and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has been placed on the same half of the draw as Roger Federer, who goes in to the tournament as the second seed this year.

In the 1st Round Roger Federer will face world no. 50, Michael Llodra, from France. Then in the 2nd Round Federer could meet either Feliciano Lopez or Nicolas Mahut. Potential quarter-final opponents for Federer include Mardy Fish and Richard Gasquet. Then in the semi-finals we could see Roger play Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, in order to most-likely play Novak Djokovic in the final. The tournament begins on the 27th of February - 2 days to go!

Day 12 of the Australian Open

Today is the day the second last Men’s Single match of the first grand slam of the year takes place, the second Men’s semi final is set to begin in about 1 hour.

  • Novak Djokovic vs Andy Murray

Novak Djokovic goes in to this match as the favourite, but I will be rooting for Andy Murray all the way for this match. Today’s match is a repeat of last year’s Australian Open final, which Djokovic won in straight sets, although since then Murray’s form has improved a substantial amount, with the help of Ivan Lendl . It will be an interesting one to watch.

I kind of check out of tournaments when Roger is out of them (I mean, I don’t care about the results as much) but the Australian Open is my favourite tournament and I will hang around and try to cheer for Andy in this numb post Federer loss state. Who is your pick to win?

Australian Open 2012 Draw ⇢

The official draw of the 100th Men’s Championship at the Australian Open 2012 was announced this morning. For the first time since 2005 Roger Federer was drawn on the same half as Rafael Nadal, putting Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray in the other half.

Roger Federer is set to play a Qualifier in his 1st Round match of the grand slam, starting in 2 days. In Round 2 Federer could either meet the world number 96 from France, Eric Prodon, or the world number 93 from Germany, Andreas Beck. In the 3rd Round Federer’s possible opponents are Jurgen Melzer and Ivo Karlovic. Federer’s potential Round 4 opponents include Alexandr Dolgopolov or Fernando Verdasco. In the Quarterfinals of the major Federer could face Mardy Fish, Florian Mayer or Juan Martin Del Potro. This could all lead to a Semifinal clash with Rafael Nadal.

Novak Djokovic defeats Roger Federer 6-2 6-1 in the Mubadala World Tennis Championships

It was a sad loss, I know, but here are some points of consolation:

  • It was a friendly exhibition match, the results of that match have no affect on ATP World Tour points and rankings.
  • Roger has only won an exhibition on two occasions prior to playing the Australian Open, once in Kooyong in 2005 and another time in Kooyong in 2009, and in both of those years he wasn’t able to take the Australian Open title. So this is a good sign.
  • Roger was smiling at the end of the match during his on-court interview, despite the result, so I think it is pretty safe to say that today’s match won’t affect his performance later on.

Roger will play the loser of Nadal-Ferrer tomorrow!
